RIP Daws News - AudioGL

Post by Logickin λ »

I decided the rename this thread because recently there are many cool but smaller daw vanishing on the internet. I love to see and toy around different smaller music making software since there are a lot of personality into them, or having interesting features. It is really sad and hard to see them gone.

RIP AudioGL - One Of The Coolest Daws In Existance

I sometimes go to their YouTube channel and website to see this daw; not only it had a SunVox like modular system, but it also had a fanzy 3D playback with the awesome single oscillator demo track, but now, it's gone.

"Hasn’t it died long before?" Some might ask this question because it didn’t have any update since 2012; however, the hard truth is, the website is officially down in this year, leaving us a 404 error message, so we can't download the trial of this cool little software anymore.

For now, let me show you the overview of AudioGL and that timeless demo track, by the developer of the software:

RIP Daws News - Caustic 3.2

RIP Caustic - The Reason Like Daw for Mobile platform (2012 - 2024)

Just discovered that by accident during a discord chat, about the first program what other users used. One user told me that he used Caustic, mentioning that the community would like to save the abandon state of the software. This made me interested to see what was their plan; however, I was shocked because after I have entered the website, it was gone. I saw nothing but a page of 404 error.

Caustic was also one of the brightest star in the Android Platform for making music, covering most of the synthesis method like Subtractive, Modular, FM and Karplus Strong, with a flashy, refreshing looking machine just like Reason. It even had a sampler that can load some of the .instr instruments from the legacy FL studio mobile and Xewton Music Studio (the upcoming post).

Fortunately, Unlike Audiogl, it is still available on the Wayback Machine; if people want to have a taste of this software, or even want to reverse engineering it, you may get it from there:

Let's see some legacies of this daw:

That's surprising but not acutely unexpected... I was over there a year ago collecting up module presets... Caustic is setup cool especially on say windows netbook with small screen... Liked the workflow but some of the modules sound rather 'thin' compared to say SunVox which is way richer in that regards and also other trackers & piano rollers... That's the main reason I never really used it much...

Another one bites the dust... There were some real ingrates & assholes on the forum there so I don't shed any tears on that aspect...

There are better than that to lament though... Soon I will thread out 'Chaotic DAW' which was once commercial then made open-source problem is that the source is a 'MESS' from everyone who has looked at it & no valid binary of any kind was left behind but I happen to have a medicated version from back in the day...

You can drag params onto playlist then draw curves also use just a sample as an instrument like Making Waves or old Fruity-

No step recording inside piano roll which is bummer but there's a step sequencer for drum krap...

Anyways thanks for the update I will have to make sure all my presets are burned to disc for safe-keeping>>>

One Machine in Caustic I really like is the Bassline, nice & squelchy>>>

Now that it's abandonware I'll probably start using it...

coincedentally I've left the caustic developer an email on his website, notifying that his wordpress was hacked (I got random redirects to casinositrs etc.)
Maybe it's not dead yet, maybe life got in the way.

Yup, That could be... But also the last snapshot was from Dec of last year, so it's been awhile... So if that's the case maybe he decided 'screw it' & not fighting it but it looks more like it was just 'given up' or maybe instead of life getting in the way perhaps DEATH got in the way, happens all the time, even to the worst of us...

Well at least the links on the wayback are good for the windows & mac programs... Presets are gone as you had to sign-in to access, glad I did that a year ago>>>

I have seen that hacked status too, and that scam website had been there for a few years. I doubt if Caustic is back to life though, considering the 404 page, the lack of update to the app and the YouTube channel, and the recent Android App Removal.

I will check the website occasionally, to see if there is any update because exception might happens. (Like notessimo.net)

Even if the wayback have removed the link, I also have downloaded the installer as a backup; I will provide a mirror if necessary.
