I don't think anybody has to worry about AXS stability-

Well I made up a 30 second short Funk 'Jingle' last night using just the sampler instruments in the new pack...

You can HEAR HERE-

https://alonetone.com/TalkOrBell/tracks/kernel-klink

I am done with soundclod...Everytime I log in they want more info & email verification when simply trying to upload any shitty tune. Getting way too invasive...

So once I get a listing worked up for the pack I'll have it up on here....

This might have something to do with the stability of AXS I probably overlooked this old page from Sonic Spot 1999. This was when AXS was DOS & a commercial product at 60 bucks...

Image

OK, So I guess I can go ahead & be bold! Amazing a 22 year-old freeware tracker is more stable than ALOT of new bloated DAWS & Sequencers...

OK...Really pushed AXS today, no sweat! This includes 24bit samples as well as 16bit...

So I say I fully underwrite this crashless Tracker...Man I gotta go around & brag about this gem!

Image

This time I did NOTHING to optimize...Full-ON Stereo Samples 24bit no trimming most the EP samples were about 3 MB each same with Giant Bass Tongue Drum which I thought might make a clever Bass Instrument but the Synth does well too...

I had previously mentioned SawCutter, It's better than you might think...

OK was lazy today so checked out SawCutter 1.0 which is another incredible piece of code from 2001. This version one was freeware, version 2 was commercial...

I am now planning on using this as a 'sidekick' to AXS Tracker. You can use up to 8 internal waveforms & draw them yourself & all kinda glory but each slot can also be imported a WAV file. Then you can make chords, notes that slide, CHORDS that slide & all kinda FX. Nice thing is that all the samples I use with AXS can also be used in SawCutter which like AXS is also amazingly small at 248 KB!! Great for making chords & 'weird sounds I also plan on perhaps making solo segments in it for AXS for some parts...

Very incredible you can waste alot of time playing with it...

Once you are happy then you record your 'session' then STOP then export the WAV...You gotta clean up the export in audio editor easy enough I mostly use Wavosaur as I don't care for Audacity...

Be sure to RESET the audio out to 44 KHZ as it defaults to the 22 KHZ on every start...

This came out in 2001 same year AXS was made free man what a great year that was many cool things then...

There is no manual but there is a fAQ page that covers most-

https://web.archive.org/web/20020817234 ... er/faq.htm

This page has more song files for 1.0 at bottom-

https://web.archive.org/web/20020810171 ... wfiles.htm

None are that great...Version 1.0 you could make a short jingle, version 2 full-out tune...

Something else worthy for an 'assistant' to AXS is Rebirth...I have a small PORTABLE version that can be stored right in the AXS folder just like SawCutter. Rebirth good for authentic sounding TB-303 riffs & chops & that is what I use for as you can fire up both 303,s & render out patterns 'doubled-up' to be used in AXS which is far more versatile...

This portable version don't have rewire & you can't change out mods in it so it's not good for actual Rebirth composition, I might make a Rebirth thread later on for the 'Full Monty' version....

I have included manual, Pattern Master, and some DECENT song files that are notable in a musical or technical sense for study...

Even TODAY Rebirth well rated against others & Rebirth is very old so that says ALOT! Take a look at this cool page here-

Sorry, Forgot to add that in this PORTABLE Rebirth when you export or save as RBS it will be in the 'SANDBOX' folder somewhere deep, not anywhere else on your machine no matter what directory you are browsing to....

Also on SawCutter the only real issue I have with it is that even if it's just running a single riff it seems to use HALF my CPU on one core, WTF?...Could be it does not like this machine I'll have to try another...

AXS on the other hand even having loaded up a song file with ALL sample slots filled, many with quality 24bit stereo WAVs does not even reach 100 MB RAM usage. And when running a tune it is using next to NO CPU!! Maybe 1% or as high as 2% and this is on old thinkpad R500 dual-core...

Going to make a few more Tut GIFs & some might be on composition which tends to offend some because the way I do it is DIFFERENT from the way THEY do it & I happen to say as such. It is my opinion only & nothing is set in stone...

On the entertainment side I was over at KVR some months ago & some guy was basically begging to have someone show him how to find the 'melodies' of a few tunes. I had some time to kill so I spent an hour making an annotated video, I picked one of the tunes & I use AXS TRACKER AND OLD TOSHIBA P-25 (2003) AND OLD CAMTASIA (2002). So I use AXS to 'pick out' the tune to make a point that MOST ALL this modern stuff is just 'lullabies' with a ton of FX added & rather easy to 'decompose'...

The video is RAW & almost embarrassing but it EXISTS! Yet still one ONE file hoster, I would not wait to download, I am sure you'll find entertaining-

At least the guy came back & thanked me.....

Here's the AXS Synth Preset Bank I use...I have changed out many of the original Presets but kept what I thought was OK to Pretty Good...

The names are all the same as I have not been able to change the names like it's supposed to happen...

That was the LAST thing the Devs were working on back in 2001 so I guess that problem never really got sorted out... I even tried opening in notepad & manually changing names but after that nothing but blank spaces...

MANY of these Presets I have added require velocity changes to really show their stuff & this is high point in AXS...

At this juncture I pretty much have covered the important stuff, So I will be letting this thread 'simmer'...Will be making more AXS tunes for sure but I want to get back to Reason (NO, Not new krappy Reason, OLD awesome Reason) for a time...

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

Was practicing today some different scales for riffs that I use & rather than just shut AXS down decided to save maybe somebody else wishes to take a 'quick study'....

RiffShitZ.AXS Track Descriptions-

Some Riffs I use here-there in some tunes with perhaps holding or skipping a note or two or going in & out of triplet time signature, You name it...

I am describing by Track rather than Block-

Track 0 - Blues Melodic Scale, Skipping Notes in regular fashion, Can be used with proper Blues-Jazz Chord in BG...

Track 1 - Whole Tone, Note Skipping similar to above, Should almost never be used with a chord in the BG due to it's symmetrical non-pentatonic form... Use it too much & you will begin to lose friends & likes...

Track 2 - Pentatonic-Based Skipping to 5ths, Great for Fusion or Rock. Chords can be used & Riff follows chords...

Track 3 - Whole Tone Scale again, with different skipping, same rules...

Track 4 - Pentatonic Skipping 'Up a 4th then Down a 5th'. Best with numerous instruments playing same thing...

Track 5 - No Clue, it's something I made up back 40 years ago when I was jamming out on a Casio CZ-101 & a Roland SH-101...

NOTE, some Tracks have the last few notes as 'blenders' which you would want to do when transitioning back into someting sane...

The notes are all there for you to see, decompose or die!

Well, Back here on the 'Unofficial AXS Blog'.... Planned on doing some work in Reason but I started messing around with a recent 'Jazz Starter' I made in AXS THEN a tune emerges, what musical hell...

I just did a test render of this tune to see how it sounds so far, I figured I'd upload for AXS Fans to listen to... It's FAR from complete, not yet half done plus NO DRUMS yet I just have a soft HiHat as a 'click track' for reference it will be deleted & full-on drums brought in...

This is the render RIGHT OUT of AXS, All I did was rename the WAV...As it plays you will see it still has the AXS Header...

You should recognize the opening riff as one in the previous song file...

AXS STILL crashless!...The only thing so far is I had it NOT want to load some WAVs, but no instability or anything else, I just reprocessed the WAVs in Wavosaur then all was fine...They were 24bit but I have had no problem with tons of 24bitters, weird...

This differs from Pulp Friction if you have listened to that as in Pulp Friction it was mostly instances of the Internal Synth in that tune only the guitar chops & drums were brought in...In this straight-up jazz tune it's ALL samples except for the synth at the near end of this render, I might add another maybe strings synth later on....

This brings to mind a suggestion for workflow as I see bad info all over the net. You can do as you wish but if you wanna make BETTER TUNES then NEVER start off by making drum tracks...EVER!...You are allowing the LEAST melodic instrument to lead the pack... In the 70's & 80's as a Bassist in many bands that went nowhere NEVER did all the members turn to the Drummer & say 'OK MAN, Get started & we'll follow!' Never happened ever the drummer always FOLLOWED what we were doing THEN became a driving force as everything was in place....

It's OK to make a 'click track' for reference, that's about it...In this tune it will be last instrument & tracks added, In Pulp Friction it was last as well & the only thing made after that was the Intro, then the tune was done... In Crimea River (still unfinished) it was added midway simply because aspects of the drums needed fleshed out sooner...

NO START WITH DRUM TRACKS! Most any other 'pitched' instrument will do...

Good Morning... Well after reviewing that previous render many times I find that I will have to reduce the sample volumes of the upright bass a tad as it's doing some crackling,,,Maybe by 2-3 steps ought to do...EQing without an EQ...

Note that the BPM is 126 but I doubled it to 252 for better pattern & FX lane resolution...Works great for that but you also have twice as many pattern blocks to deal with...Double-edged sword kinda thing...

Also note that originally the 'one-hit' premade chords were to be V2A button only but became too much same monotony sound so I also added V2F button with LP12 filter active so this makes it sound like it's actually 'changing up' a bit with different velocity values. You can hear this as tune progresses. I also did this to the acoustic guitar solo samples which made it sound more like a processed electro-acoustic guitar with better 'tings & tangs'...

Hopefully that helps with your own personal AXS Quest...

FYI - When you save a song to overwrite an existing the dialog pops to ask if you wanna overwrite Y/N? You push 'Y' fine make sure the 'edit' button is off first as i was getting weird 'A' notes of different octaves in the song that had to be removed...Yeah, I know that was stupid mistake for sure...
