Latch mode for a generator

Post by Rondobotic » Fri Dec 04, 2015 2:44 am

I tried to do a quick search and could not find anything so thought I would post this!

I love drones....

would it be hard to put a latch on/off option in a generator so you could sustain wave form without re-triggering any envelopes on pattern loops etc?

I have been using a dc offset and then modulating the signal with LFO's and wave shapers etc etc

however it would be nice to have a sustained signal that you could modulate with patterns and effect modules.

There's a way to do this if you're using a text keyboard:

Play+hold a note
Press+hold Shift key
Release the note
Release Shift

The note will be sustained until it's played again or poliphony is exceeded.
This also works for chords that can be played at once on a computer keyboard.

Another way would be to record your drone into the Sampler and to set loops for both the waveform and the envelope.

Nevertheless, a more general hold function would be useful.

Thank you for the tips!

I will do it like that for now!

however being able to adjust and modulate some of the parameters in the generator and even the analogue generator would be great, like duty cycle, second frequency, filters etc.

I am not up to scratch with the sampler but you could get detunes and stuff like that with pitch shifting I assume, not sure how to adjust duty cycle with a sampler.

Those parameters can still be adjusted using the Shift to hold way.
Another simple way would be a really long pattern, max length is 4096 lines, over ten minutes at 100 bpm.
The Pitch Shifter module has it own granular kind of sound, another way of live controlling pitch is to send a signal into the Generator for freq modulation.

I must admit I didn't look into the maximum length of a pattern, that is probably plenty long enough for 1 drone, you could hide the transition into another pattern if you wanted something epic the drone should be changing enough not to be boring anyway.

Thanks for the help iaon!
