Screen goes black during export to WAV

Post by a1matt »

The screen goes black in the background during export to WAV.
This behaviour was introduced in v2.
Before that you could see switch between module and timeline view and see the playback head moving through the track.

Not sure if this is a bug or by design.

The old behaviour was very useful as a mixing tool.
It was possible to see if the signal was clipping while exporting.
Now the track has to be played through in realtime which is much slower.

This is not a bug, but protection against unwanted clicks during export. I will think about how it can be improved in updates. Possibly through translucent shading

Thank you Alex, as always, I appreciate you taking onboard my feedback.

Translucent would work for me.

Here is more information on my use case (I suspect I am an outlier, but I will type it anyway just in case it helps you ponder):

Before rendering I set the visualiser to show dB for all modules.
Then arrange the modules view so I can see both the output module and the module at the end of each instrument and fx chain on screen.
Then I watch these while rendering.
If something looks unbalanced I do a combination of zooming in on the relevant modules and switching over to the timeline. (As sometimes the arrangement needs addressing and sometimes it is the levels within a module(s).)
I'll often render a track two or three times in a row to focus on different areas as needed.
